The use of catalytic bars has no effect on the hardness of water.

Q. The so-called "no-salt conditioners" don't claim to remove hardness. They claim to condition water so It "acts" soft. Does it?

A. The answer is in the results. If hard water conditioned by one of these products "acted soft" it would form suds when mixed with soap. It doesn't. The water coming out of these products acts no differently and, when analyzed, has the same chemical composition as the water going in. The no-salt conditioners do not soften water nor do they make it "act soft". These claims are false.

Q. What about magnetic water conditioners?

A. Studies have been conducted on various types of magnetic products too.

Dr. A D. Carda (University of South Dakota) reported that " ... claims of the magnetic water conditioning manufacturers that there is a change in physical properties ... were not substantiated by the research project. The results of this laboratory study indicate that there was no significant change in the water-quality of Rapid City water when the permanent magnetic conditioning devices were Used."

Dr. J. E. Alleman (Purdue University) reported that "...none of the six permanent magnetic water conditioners tested during this study appeared capable of 'conditioning' the employed groundwater in a fashion which would uniformly yield beneficial changes in its chemical, physical and scaling characteristics."

Magnetic "conditioners" do not soften water.
